Format (3 matches, minimum, guaranteed each day)
Group Stage (Saturday) 16 groups of four players will play a round robin comprising 3 x 11 point matches. Using then current UKBGF Player Ratings, entrants will be allocated to groups according to their respective ratings such that Group A will comprise players in rating positions 1, 32, 33 and 64; Group B will contain players in rating positions 2, 31, 34 and 63; and so on. The groups will then be shuffled to ensure random distribution for Sunday's knockout stages. Each match win in the round robin will score one point (nil for a loss). The top two players in each group (32 in total) will progress to Sunday’s Main bracket; the bottom two players in each group (32 in total) will be placed in Sunday’s Consolation bracket. If two players in are tied on points (equal first on 2 wins each or equal second on 1 win each), their group placing will be decided on the head-to-head result. If three players in a group are tied on points (equal first on 2 wins each or equal second on 1 win reach), their group placing will be decided by a series of 1 point play-off matches. The three players will each roll four dice and the two highest rollers will play a one-point match. The winner will stay on to play the third player. The first player to win two consecutive matches will finish first out of the three and the remaining two players will play a further one-point match to determine second and third places. All one-point play-offs will be clock-mandatory (12 seconds/move, 4 minutes pool). Knock-out Stage (on Sunday) There's a route-map here, or you can plough through the description below :-) Match length in each flight will be 9 points up to (and including) semi-finals and 11 points in the final. Losers in the first round of the Main will join the second round of the Consolation. In the first rounds of the Main and the Consolation, players from the same round robin group will be placed in different halves of the draw. In the Main, each first-placed finisher from Saturday's groups will be drawn against a second-placed finisher from a different group; in the Consolation, each third-placed finisher from Saturday will play a fourth-placed finisher from a different group. Those who lose in the first round of the Consolation will enter the Second Chance flight, and those who lose in the first round of the Second Chance, will enter the Last Chance. Those who lose in either the second round of the Main or the Consolation will enter the ReMAINders or (as applicable) DisCONSOlates flight. Rules Joint Tournament Directors are Liviu Ionescu, Tim Spring and Chris Purchase. The tournament will be played to WBGF rules, subject to the local variations listed below. There will be a strong emphasis on generous sportsmanship and fair and considerate behaviour. To this end...
